Like a piece of industrial strength Velcro, football and fatherhood have gone together for years and years…and years. From cradle to the terraces, Dads all over the UK have lovingly introduced the beautiful game to their kids, bringing them up with a deep passion for the sport firmly installed. The wins, the goals, the…the pies? Superb. So, isn’t it about time you showed him your gratitude for a life spent obsessing over formations, tactics and who’s going where in the transfer window? Of course it is. Read more

On me head my son… – football gifts!

November 25, 2009 by Mike B · Leave a Comment

ICFDS, football, boy, ball,

Not to ‘strike’ a gloomy tone in this run up to December and all things festive… but for me the school football experience was a relatively dull affair. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the camaraderie… but being goalie you can understand my bitterness when it comes to that green field of dreams. Rather than pacing up front to steal victory (proudly punting a rather deflated ball through the back of a worn net) I stood cold and wet on the line, raising my head every few moments each time the whisper of anything remotely spherical came hurtling through the fog. Charlie George -footballerThe Premiership season is heating up.

Chelsea currently sit on top of the league having beaten Manchester United 1-0 last Sunday, opening up a five point lead. Arsenal, on a thirteen match unbeaten run in all competitions, are scoring for fun with their Manager, Arsène Wenger, claiming that they can win the title this season. Big spenders Manchester City are steadily keeping pace with the top four but have stumbled in recent games, drawing their last five Premiership games. Liverpool, however, have slipped to a number of defeats and draws in recent weeks leaving them struggling in the title race. Read more

Dear Georgie- solutions for Gormless plinthers…

plinth

"London...you're booked!"

Having recently been annexed by Anthony Gormely and his merry band of attention-seekers, Trafalgar Square’s fourth plinth is allowing select members of the general public the chance to ‘represent themselves’ in an hour long shift atop the stone podium.  Without wishing to appear too cynical, it is only understandable that, with a cast of over 2,400, ‘quality’ is going to be compromised somewhere along the line- when I went along a few weeks ago, I was met by the sight of a man wrapped in toilet paper, shuffling around on all fours whilst texting on his Blackberry like a technologically-aware Andrex puppy. Becks in Football Idol shock-horror…- football gifts.

beckham-rapper

BREAKING NEWS: Worldwide jubilation at the shocking revelation that David Beckham is in fact a pretty nifty rapper.**

I often wonder what celebrities would have done with their lives if they hadn’t Hit the Big Time.  Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding was a hairdresser, Russell Brand was a foreign language teacher, and now it has been leaked that David Beckham was primed and ready to forge himself a side-line career as a rap star…

Yes, you read that correctly.  Speaking to football website Channelbee.com, Peter Hook (of New Order and Joy Division fame) let slip that Becks was supposed to have featured on a re-recording of ‘World in motion’.  Luckily(?) Geordie pipsqueaks Ant & Dec beat him in the dash to the studio.

Without wishing to question Beck’s bad-boy rapping credentials, it is pretty safe to say that his freestylin’ is unlikely to top his footballing.  Now preparing to take part in his 4th World Cup tournament next year, it appears that Beck’s side-line project is well-and-truly on the backburner- let’s leave the ‘singing’ to Victoria, eh? Dad-shaped Christmas dilemma? SOLVED! – gifts for dads

October 9, 2009 by georgie · Leave a Comment

gifts-for-dadAs is so often the way, things were so much easier When We Were Young- especially when it comes to festive gift buying.  Up until the age of 13, I managed to palm my parents off with the various woollen abominations I had hastily knocked up at Knitting Club, whilst their thoughtful gifts for me commanded a good 90% of the space under the Christmas tree.  However, all this changed upon starting my first part-time job at 14, when I was suddenly met with the realisation that, now I had enough ‘disposable income’, I would have to start forking out for Real Gifts.

Manchester United gift ideas – celebrate in style!

Old Trafford

Supermarkets and Pharmacies have recently reported a bizarre but huge increase in tissue and handkerchief sales over the previous couple of weeks. Strangely enough, they’ve all been purchased by men.* What could be the reason for such extreme purchasing by your average British male? We at Buyagift like to think it’s the result of an ambitious collective cooking effort led by Jamie Oliver in an attempt to get your average male in the kitchen, only to be stumped by the lethal tear-jerking effect, that an onion has on the eye. Perhaps men have embraced their feminine side but found Sex In The City a little too much for the tear ducts. No. The truth is it’s coming to the end of the football season and, well, men just love their football.

Manchester United vs Inter MilanTonight’s the big night: we’re halfway through Paris Hilton’s British Best Friend!

Oh, and there’s the small matter of a Clash of The Titans style match between Manchester United and Inter Milan, with Alex Ferguson and Special One Mourinho butting heads (possibly literally) once more.

We know which one we’ll be watching here at Buyagift HQ and it won’t be the one featuring cute little dogs in little doggy body warmers.  We did think, however, that today might be a good day to think about some of the gifts for Manchester United fans we’ve got on the site…

Harry at Old Trafford on his Stadium Tour

The lovely Harry sent in a brilliant customer review of his stadium tour of Old Trafford, home of heroes Man U.

Though some of us don’t support Manchester United, we all agree with Harry that their state-of-the-art home ground is a great place to spend a day out, learning about one of football’s most successful champions.

Well done Harry, you thoroughly deserve your buyagift goodies!
