Crazy cars for whacky tracksters…- driving experiences

October 14, 2009 by georgie · Leave a Comment

At some point in our lives, we’ve all fantasised about how we would go about making our very own Great Escape.  I often dream of abseiling down from the fourth floor of the office building and running off into the sunset (with any luck, returning home in time for ‘Neighbours’).  It is only my crippling fear of heights and a distinct lack of climbing equipment which stand between me and this goal. Father’s Day Competition 2009

New advice: "Always find out where the brakes are before getting in a racing car"

We’re very pleased to announce the Father’s Day 2009 competition from Buyagift.  If you’d like the chance to win your Dad a Single Seater Driving Thrill – and you’d be barmy not to because Father’s Day falls on the same day as the British Grand Prix this year – then all you have to do is answer one simple question:

What’s the best advice your Father has ever given you?

On the other hand, if you are yourself a Father then perhaps you’d like to share with the world your best piece of sage wisdom to be handed down from generation to generation.  We asked around the office here at Buyagift HQ and some of the best pieces of advice our Dads have given us include:

  • You can talk to yourself, that’s OK. Just don’t answer back.
  • If you’ve got a migraine then drink more cider (we’re not sure that that is actually good advice)
  • If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
  • Never tie your shoelaces in a revolving door

Has your Dad given you better advice than this collection of slightly questionable tips? Or perhaps you are a Father and you wish to share the benefit of your sage wisdom with the world at large.  Either way you can share your advice by entering the Father’s Day competition here:

Father’s Day Competition

Closing date is 17th June so that gives you a week to get your entries to us! – go go go!

(We’ll be posting some of the advice we receive on our Buyagift Twitter feed so check there for updates – and don’t forget to check out our Fathers Day Gifts also!)

Fathers Day Gift Guide – White Van Man Driving

The unabashed (and self-proclaimed) King of the Road: the White Van Man. Whether you’re pootling along a country lane or cruising down a highway there is only one fundamental constant in modern driving. At some point you are going to be cut up by a bloke driving a white van – and the chances are that he’ll enjoy doing it as well.

Now it’s time for you to get a feeling for what it’s like to be the King of the Road in a Ford Transit Sports Van (complete with go-faster stripes).  It’s a souped-up version of the classic Ford Transit (so it probably won’t have “Clean me” written in grime on the side – a shame) that’ll have you tearing around the track at Prestwold Hall like it was the M5 on a Wednesday afternoon.

Only thing is we can’t promise that the van will actually be white. Sorry about that.

It’s the perfect gift for a Dad who’s always fancied himself as a bit of a Road Warrior – check out the full details here: White Van Man Driving Experience

We’ve also got a full range of Father’s Day gifts available (just in case your Dad prefers something a bit more classic!) – Fathers Day Gifts

Chocolate powered racing car

Racing Car powered by chocolate

Fill 'er up... no Fruit & Nut please!

We all remember being told to “eat our greens” when we were younger.  They were, apparently, good for you (apart from sprouts – come on, they’re not good for anyone!).  Full of vitamins and minerals and other healthy things.

Here’s the proof positive that not only are fruit and veggies good for you, but they can also let you go for hell for leather around a race track in a way that’s environmentally friendly.  Who knew that greens were that good?

The team at World First in collaboration with the University of Warwick have assembled a Formula 3 race car that uses veg products in its components. Carrots and root vegetables make the steering wheel, engine lubricants are made from plant oils, the engine is a 2l monster that runs on bio-diesel made from chocolate waste products and vegetable oil. Even the wing mirrors are made from potato starches and flax fibres!

Showing that green sensibilities don’t have to compromise rip-roaring speeds this little beaut can do 125mph around corners!  Tasty.

Is this the future of racing cars? Only time will tell. For now you could get a hold of a single seater driving experience and maybe eat a Wispa at the same time and dream of the time when you can eat the car when you’ve finished.

Ferrari F430 experience at Thruxton video

The Ferrari F430 is … well … it’s fast.

How fast?

Very fast.

The Ferrari F430 goes from 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds. That’s about the time it takes to draw a deep breath. It also has a top speed of 197mph. That’s almost two hundred miles an hour!

The video shows a Ferrari F430 being put through its paces at Thruxton. A Ferrari F430 experience gift is the perfect present for the person you know who wants a chance to drive a car that Jeremy Clarkson calls “just about the best car I’ve ever driven”.
