The Stig revealed… or is he?

Regular readers will know that we have something of an obsession with The Stig. Sunday’s edition of Top Gear, then, was something of a revelation.

For the first time in the history of Stig-dom the famous helmet was removed to reveal the identity of everyone’s favourite tamed racing driver. Who would it be? Would it be the previously rumoured Ben Collins? The back-from-the-dead Elvis Presley?

No. Underneath the helmet was none other than….

Well. We don’t want to ruin the surprise, take a look for yourself here: The Stig revealed (BBC News).

Personally speaking, I was disappointed. I was expecting either a robot from the future or, at the very least, an abomination from the deeps.  His later performance on the show also leaves open the possibility that the producers of Top Gear are merely toying with us and this is a sleight-of-hand misdirection. The Stig’s performance later on in the show would also point to this being the case.  Clarkson himself quipped that: “I don’t think [he] is the Stig…”

The chase for the real identity of the Stig goes on… (and that means that our Stig Posters are still a valid way of claiming the title!)
