Oh, make me over!- personal shopper experiences

shoppingWe’ve all been there- first thing on a Monday morning, and the outfit so carefully planned in your head the night before is still lining the dirty washing basket…  Picking out outfits is a time-consuming act at best and, at worst, an absolute nightmare.  Whilst Kate Moss is free to flit about in the saucy bits of string which comprise her latest clothing range without a second thought, some of us just don’t have the same appreciation of what ‘goes’ with what (I, for example, would not be adverse to wearing a snood with some gladiator sandals).

And it would appear that we are not alone in our desperation.  According to a recent survey, 71% of women leave dressing rooms with ‘a different perception’ of their bodies, and 11% admit to having a little cry upon realising that they just don’t have Gok Wan’s innate ability to throw together a catwalk-worthy combo.  However, before you resign yourself to a lifetime of smock tops and voluminous trackpants, help is at hand. Karen was particularly happy with her makeover experience!

They survived 35 years of controversy, pyrotechnics and crazy, crazy nights – now shock-rockers Kiss are returning with a new album. The legendary band, who have sold over 80 million records worldwide, have recently released their latest aural assault Sonic Boom, heralding it as ‘one of the best records of their career’. Relax, rejuvenate and Rationalize…- Spa days

October 15, 2009 by georgie · Leave a Comment

spa-dayAs I peer into the staff biscuit barrel each morning, debating whether to plump for a trusty custard cream or go for something a little more adventurous, I often wonder just how City traders cope with the stress of their jobs.  Stocks and shares aside, just making the choice between two confectionaries is enough bring me out in a cold sweat.

Earlier this week, electrical uber-giant Phillips announced its latest test product, aptly named ‘The Rationalizer’.  Consisting of a futuristic bracelet and soap-dish style LED ‘bowl’, the aim of the Rationalizer is to alert bankers when their stress levels are too high to function ‘objectively’ by glowing red.  Funny to think that the current economic crisis might have been averted had more city slickers been willing to ‘accessorise’…

Pamper Days: Get through the Christmas period with a pamper day to look forward to!

October 6, 2009 by Ian · Leave a Comment

pampering-dayChristmas shopping is very much like trying to avoid the evitable post-work traffic jam – if you don’t do it early enough you haven’t a hope in hell. Unfortunately, for most of us (myself included), this means accepting the headache that comes with last minute Christmas shopping. It’s an exhausting practice that can’t be escaped, but can certainly be soothed. Read more

Make-up the breakdown – Makeovers

October 2, 2009 by georgie · Leave a Comment

make-up-badA recent survey has discovered that nearly half a million of the UK’s annual road accidents are caused by ‘women applying cosmetics behind the wheel’. Without wishing to blight the cause of Sisterhood, I hardly need to tell you that 2 years in the clink is a high price to pay, even for the most perfectly applied dab of concealer or the most lustrously-lined lips. Your singing days are numbered...Billy Bass!!

Much like wearing a velveteen suit to your wedding (as, indeed, my father did), Shell Suits, space hoppers and computerised virtual pets all seemed like A Good Idea at the Time.  Even the queen herself counts a mounted singing fish as a valued part of the Balmoral décor, thus demonstrating the case that even the Elect aren’t immune to an occasional bout of poor judgement. portrait of womanAs you, our stylish and suave readers, will know, London Fashion Week has recently been and finished for another season. The 25th birthday of the celebration of all things glamorous, this year’s festivities had all the makings of a classic fashion experience – controversy, celebrities and catwalks.

Oh, and there was a small matter of the outfits. Featuring the latest collections from top designers including Burberry and Vivienne Westwood, London Fashion Week was the perfect opportunity to get a glimpse of the good, the bad and the down-right ridiculous sides of style. From designer dresses to full leather head-masks, there was a stunning selection of garments on show, and not all of them suitable for everyday wear! Read more

Mothers Day Competition – Last call for entries!

March 18, 2009 by Max · Leave a Comment

Mothers Day Competition Reminder

It’s Wednesday 18th March and we all know what that means: it’s 44 years to the very day that Russian cosmonaut Alexy Leonov became the first person to perform a space walk.

It’s also, in perhaps a less space-based way, the last day for entries into the Buyagift Mothers Day Competition.  You could win your mum an amazingly relaxing and indulgent Pampering and Cream Tea for Two at the Elizabeth Arden Spa, which, let’s face it is a pretty amazing Mothers Day Gift to turn up with on Sunday.

So, ladies and gentlemen, let’s have no delays in getting your entries for the competition in.  Remember, all you have to do is tell us why your mum deserves to win.

It’s so straight-forward that even a space-walking astronaut should be able to do it.
