Win a romantic train journey from the Orient-Express with Buyagift’s Valentine’s Day competition.

Orient Expres man, staff

The art of buying a Valentine’s Day gift is notoriously hard to master. There’s the price: do you spend loads of money or do you risk seeming tight by maintaining a frugal attitude? Then there’s what to buy: an elaborate romantic break or perhaps a sentimental but miniscule gift? It’s enough to make your head explode!

Now, we at Buyagift just don’t like seeing headless bodies- especially not on Valentine’s Day- so we’ve decided to help out one lucky customer. This Valentine’s Day we’re giving away a Day Trip for Two from Orient-Express to one lucky romantic. All you need to do is enter.

A luxury train journey for two is pretty much as romantic as you can get (think the Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint scene in North by North West, but in the UK). This incredible prize will give you the fabulous choice of either a dining excursion or a full day experience on, depending on your departure location,  a British Pullman or Northern Belle train. Departing from selected locations throughout the UK, you’ll wine and dine in the exquisite surroundings of a carriage restored to its former 1930s elegance.

Now, how does that sound for a plate of steaming hot romance? So, get on over to Buyagift dot com and sign up to our newsletter to stand a chance of winning.

Buyagift’s Valentine’s Day Competition

Competition ends Wednesday 10th February, 2010.

Go ape…Krypton Factor style- Go Ape experiences!

November 12, 2009 by Ian · Leave a Comment

child on cargo net at go apeAs a young lad growing up in the mid-90s, I was obsessed by the Krypton Factor. Every Friday evening I could be found on my Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles beanbag, attention fixed firmly on who was going to win the assault course challenge that week. The cargo net, the rope bridge, the zip wire- it was incredible! Only a genius could take such a sublime format and build upon it. Well, the Go Ape! people have done just that.

With 22 locations UK wide, Go Ape! is a series of activities, zip wires and cargo nets securely built into the upper regions of a forest. Maintaining a strong emphasis on safety and security, you’ll emulate our furry cousins by making your way between trees. Read more

Orient Express man, staffListen… do you hear that?? The sound of blissful retirement

In my opinion, the idea retirement sounds like heaven. I’m sure you as well as I can appreciate that relaxing is so much more rewarding if it has been earned. Well those young at heart family members certainly have earned it! So to celebrate their retirement, and pay them back for all those years of £20 notes… it’s never too late to say a hearty thank you! Send yourself into (bohemian) rhapsody with a rocking theatre trip

October 16, 2009 by Tim · Leave a Comment

we-will-rock-youLoud, proud, and almost ridiculously over-the-top – what wasn’t there to love about Queen? While poodle-haired guitar maestro Brian May recently brought the band’s legacy back to life (he and drummer Roger Taylor collaborated with Bad Company vocalist Paul Rodgers to produce a new album), the most potent memory of queen lies with the image of the late, great Freddie Mercury.

The moustached King of camp truly embraced the theatrical with his performances, and boasted one of the most impressive voices in rock history. Penning classic songs such as Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are the Champions and Radio Ga-Ga, Queen have influenced countless aspiring musicians and will forever remain as one of Britain’s finest musical achievements. Enjoy the show with a top theatre trip

theatre-breaksWhether captivated by the magic of Grease or charmed by Billy Elliott, we have all dreamed of taking centre stage and showing our talents to the masses. And while you may have pushed back the memories, there’s a fair chance that you’ve already graced the stage at some point in your life – more than likely during the low-budget glory days of school plays. My personal acting career featured two performances, and owing to a wealth of nerves and a lack of talent (and, possibly, the fact that I was a child), they were not the resounding successes I had hoped for.

My first chance to shine came during my primary school days. Taking the impressive role of a tree, it was my responsibility to stand still and, to my excitement, lend my vocal talents to the choir. Unfortunately my pitch-perfect singing was met with some criticism. My music teacher, with the utmost tact, requested that I ’sing a little quieter’, which, to my understanding, meant ‘don’t sing at all. Ever.’ Read more

Shake things up with a Cocktail Masterclass

October 14, 2009 by Tim · Leave a Comment

Eye of newt and toe of frog, wool of bat and tongue of dog – this may be a recipe from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, but it’s not too distant from the lengths some people are going to in order to create unique foods and drinks. Partly inspired by the eccentric meddling of the senses enjoyed by the likes of Heston Blumenthal and El Bulli, a bar school in East London has begun teaching students the unusual art of molecular cocktail making. Dear Georgie- solutions for Gormless plinthers…

plinth

"London...you're booked!"

Having recently been annexed by Anthony Gormely and his merry band of attention-seekers, Trafalgar Square’s fourth plinth is allowing select members of the general public the chance to ‘represent themselves’ in an hour long shift atop the stone podium.  Without wishing to appear too cynical, it is only understandable that, with a cast of over 2,400, ‘quality’ is going to be compromised somewhere along the line- when I went along a few weeks ago, I was met by the sight of a man wrapped in toilet paper, shuffling around on all fours whilst texting on his Blackberry like a technologically-aware Andrex puppy. Revellers beware- you’re in for a scare…- Halloween Theme Park tickets.

It’s officially That Time of Year again.  The time when children are allowed to delve a little too far into the dressing-up box and are forgiven for demanding sweets from their seniors with scant regard for their ‘p’s’ and ‘q’s’.  So dig out your old witch’s mask and fish out those face-paints, because Halloween is coming to town and a casual dress code is not an option… Read more
