"I'm in the woods so much I can tell you which plants are edible" - Lee Travino

What do telephones, penicillin and golf have in common?

Those of you who thought “Why, they were all invented in Scotland!” – well done. The game we all know and love today, started in 12th Century Scotland where bored shepherds would knock stones in rabbit holes, which has to be one of the better pastimes bored shepherds have come up with.

If your dad is as golf mad as Tiger Woods but without the bank balance or golfing skills to match, look no further than Buyagift.com for the perfect gift for him this Father’s Day.

If your dad really is in need of brushing up his skills why not take a look at out golf lessons for dad. At a Marriott country club, a PGA golf professional will put your dad though his paces in an insightful lesson, he’ll then enjoy lunch before heading out to the course to put his new found skills to the test.

Or if dad is already skilled enough with the handicap to match, why not get him some 2-for-1 golf vouchers that’ll allow him and a friend to visit over 750 courses across the UK and only one of them has to pay (perhaps it should be the loser?).

If golf isn’t your dad’s bag, then why not head over to out Father’s Day gift guide to see what other fantastic Father’s Day gifts we’ve got lined up.

Old Trafford

Supermarkets and Pharmacies have recently reported a bizarre but huge increase in tissue and handkerchief sales over the previous couple of weeks. Strangely enough, they’ve all been purchased by men.* What could be the reason for such extreme purchasing by your average British male? We at Buyagift like to think it’s the result of an ambitious collective cooking effort led by Jamie Oliver in an attempt to get your average male in the kitchen, only to be stumped by the lethal tear-jerking effect, that an onion has on the eye. Perhaps men have embraced their feminine side but found Sex In The City a little too much for the tear ducts. No. The truth is it’s coming to the end of the football season and, well, men just love their football.

£8,000,000 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
OK, there was is only 22 in the world but we at Buyagift think that the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, which recently sold for £8 million and broke the record for most expensive car bought at auction, is a little… well expensive.

It’s not that we don’t like Ferraris – in fact I’d go so far as to say as we love them, it’s just you could drive a race prepared Ferrari 360 at Silverstone for 0.001% of the price of the admittedly lovely machine pictured above, what a great idea for Father’s Day.

Customer John Bailey on his Ferrari day

Customer John Bailey on his Ferrari day

Dad and his car… where would we have been without them? From the family trip to the beach to that emergency lift home from the party, but dear customers the time has come to pay back papa for abusing the Dad Taxi.

We know he likes to drive, but why not let him get behind the wheel of a dream car, no more nipping to the supermarket to get the shopping, no, it’s time for pure power – pedal to the metal round the UK’s best racing circuits.

If fast cars aren’t his bag then we’ve got everything from 4×4’s to tanks!

We’ve even gone so far as to make it even easier to make Dad’s automotive dreams come true by knocking almost 25% off the price of four fantastic supercars, down from £99 to just £75. Choose from the two Italian beasts the Ferrari and the Lamborghini or perhaps you see your dad as a bit of a Bond type figure and the Aston Martin would be more his glass of Martini. For pure racing adrenaline nothing can beat the single seaters.

So remember the perfect Father’s Day gift for any Driving Mad Dad this summer has to be a driving experience.

Sporting Easter days out at Ripley’s London!

April 9, 2009 by owen · Leave a Comment

Over Easter Ripley’s Believe It or Not! London is going sports mad (it’s pretty mad anyway but it’s going to be a particular type of madness over Easter). To get you in the mood for London 2012 you’ll be able to view 18 different Olympic torches.

But that’s not all, London’s oddest museum is going to play host to the world’s smallest body builder for the entire two weeks over Easter. Romeo Dev is only 2′9″ but don’t let his diminutive size fool you, he can seriously pump some iron.

Check out the video above of Romeo at Ripleys Believe It or Not! London or buy some Ripleys Believe It or Not! tickets for the perfect sporting Easter day out.

Easter fun for all the family at Go Ape!

Go Ape is a fantastic day out for Easter, it’s possibly one of our favourite days out on the website (and that’s out of over 2000 gifts). This is family fun for monkeys and apes of all sizes from baby chimp to daddy gorilla. Each of the 22 locations has something different to offer including the longest zipline in the UK at the Aberfoyle site.

The basic idea is to swing from tree to tree, using ziplines, rope bridges, ladders, walkways and tunnels (think Tarzan crossed with It’s a Knockout – which is definitely a TV show we would watch).  Check out the awesome zipline in Aberfoyle in the video above or click through for a slideshow of the office trip to Go Ape!

Head on over to Buyagift to get your Go Ape! tickets

alton_towers_ticketsAlton Towers have opened another fantastic new attraction, brought to you in association with SEA LIFE! With 25 locations around the world (including all centres that we sell SEA LIFE tickets for) they really are the experts in all things fish (and sharks, and rays, and seahorses…) and now they’ve brought their brand of marine expertise to Alton Towers.

What makes the Alton Towers SEA LIFE! centre extra special? The theme: Pirates!

Gone are the gallery-style collections of oblong tanks, and in their place comes displays of all shapes and sizes offering astonishingly close views of an array of fantastic sea creatures through windows which are flat, curved and even bubble-shaped!

Join Captain Black and crew to discover over 300 species of aquatic life under the wreck of the galleon in Mutiny Bay or dip your fingers in the tropical pool and let Shrimp give you a manicure (tidy results not guaranteed).  The very best part of all this aquatic discovery? It’s included in the price of your Alton Towers tickets!

BA is happy
Do you like the thought of skydiving but think that perhaps jumping 7000ft from a plane protected by what essentially is some string and a big sheet isn’t exactly a great idea?

Well fear not, for thanks to our friends at Airkix we can now feel the thrill, float in the air and feel the wind whistling past our cheeks, without ever having to step near a plane. B.A. Baracus would be pleased.
