- “I’m in the woods so much I can tell you which plants are edible” Lee Travino
What do telephones, penicillin and golf have in common?
Those of you who thought “Why, they were all invented in Scotland!” – well done. The game we all know and love today, started in 12th Century Scotland where bored shepherds would knock stones in rabbit holes, which has to be one of the better pastimes bored shepherds have come up with.
If your dad is as golf mad as Tiger Woods but without the bank balance or golfing skills to match, look no further than Buyagift.com for the perfect gift for him this Father’s Day.
If your dad really is in need of brushing up his skills why not take a look at out golf lessons for dad. At a Marriott country club, a PGA golf professional will put your dad though his paces in an insightful lesson, he’ll then enjoy lunch before heading out to the course to put his new found skills to the test.
Or if dad is already skilled enough with the handicap to match, why not get him some 2-for-1 golf vouchers that’ll allow him and a friend to visit over 750 courses across the UK and only one of them has to pay (perhaps it should be the loser?).
If golf isn’t your dad’s bag, then why not head over to out Father’s Day gift guide to see what other fantastic Father’s Day gifts we’ve got lined up.

Supermarkets and Pharmacies have recently reported a bizarre but huge increase in tissue and handkerchief sales over the previous couple of weeks. Strangely enough, they’ve all been purchased by men.* What could be the reason for such extreme purchasing by your average British male? We at Buyagift like to think it’s the result of an ambitious collective cooking effort led by Jamie Oliver in an attempt to get your average male in the kitchen, only to be stumped by the lethal tear-jerking effect, that an onion has on the eye. Perhaps men have embraced their feminine side but found Sex In The City a little too much for the tear ducts. No. The truth is it’s coming to the end of the football season and, well, men just love their football.

£8,000,000 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

OK, there was is only 22 in the world but we at Buyagift think that the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, which recently sold for £8 million and broke the record for most expensive car bought at auction, is a little… well expensive.
It’s not that we don’t like Ferraris – in fact I’d go so far as to say as we love them, it’s just you could drive a race prepared Ferrari 360 at Silverstone for 0.001% of the price of the admittedly lovely machine pictured above, what a great idea for Father’s Day.

Customer John Bailey on his Ferrari day
Dad and his car… where would we have been without them? From the family trip to the beach to that emergency lift home from the party, but dear customers the time has come to pay back papa for abusing the Dad Taxi.
We know he likes to drive, but why not let him get behind the wheel of a dream car, no more nipping to the supermarket to get the shopping, no, it’s time for pure power – pedal to the metal round the UK’s best racing circuits.
If fast cars aren’t his bag then we’ve got everything from 4×4’s to tanks!
We’ve even gone so far as to make it even easier to make Dad’s automotive dreams come true by knocking almost 25% off the price of four fantastic supercars, down from £99 to just £75. Choose from the two Italian beasts the Ferrari and the Lamborghini or perhaps you see your dad as a bit of a Bond type figure and the Aston Martin would be more his glass of Martini. Meet The Lemurs – customer review

Lemurs aren't known for their table manners
We received a lovely review of our Meet The Lemurs experience today from animal lover Gill H – seen in the picture in the left covered in… well… lemurs!
She received the Meet The Lemurs gift experience as a birthday present from her partner and had such a good time that she was completely unaware of anything outside the enclosure.
We really love hearing these stories from the people who go on our gift experiences – making sure that people have experiences that are that little bit (or even a lot) out of the ordinary are why we’re in this business!
Gill’s full review and photos are after the jump…
Fathers Day Gift Guide – Grow Your Own Chillies
May 11, 2009 by Max · Leave a Comment

Not included: volcano extinguisher
The received wisdom among most male circles that when it comes to chillies then hotter always always equals better. Having seen actual grown men cry as they eat vindaloo (all the while saying they love every mouthful of course!) then I say a bit of chilli education time could come in handy.
That’s where this Grow Your Own Chillies kit comes in.
Containing several different varieties of chilli – ranging from the fairly standard Jalapeño up to the Oh-my-word-i’ve-got-a-volcano-in-my-mouth-and-it’s-not-going-out Tepin chilli – this kit has got all you need to get started in the world of growing your own chillies. Pots, markers, handy tips, the whole kaboodle.
It also allows the recipient to practice eating those fiery peppers in the privacy of their own homes and not have their tears undermine their macho credentials down the pub. It’s the perfect Father’s Day gift for Dads who like a bit of spice in their life.
Chelsea Flower Show – great deals for RHS members

That's an optimistic sign
May 19th-23rd sees the RHS Chelsea Flower Show get into full blooming swing. This stalwart of the Gardening scene showcases all sorts of different gardens; from urban nooks and crannies to floral design and show gardens. It’s also a nifty place to pick up some unusual gardening items that you just wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else.
Royal Horticultural Society members can buy tickets for the first two days of the show, when everything is shiny and fresh. They also get reduced-rate members tickets for every day (and indeed for every flower show the RHS puts on).
That’s not even mentioning all the other benefits that RHS membership gives: unlimited access to RHS gardens, monthly Garden magazine, advice, access to 140 RHS recommended gardens. It’s a gardener’s paradise!
A gift RHS membership, dare we say, also makes for a great Fathers Day Gift for a Dad who’s got green fingers!
Cake Boy review – Claire B

Claire B wrote in today to share her experience of Cake Boy (one of Buyagift’s favourite London cake emporiums) and as she took such fabulous and tempting photos we thought it best to share what she had to say with as wide an audience as possible!
Fathers Day Gift Guide – Curry Mad Dads!

Tikka to ride?
With Father’s Day bearing down us faster than a bull in… well… a supermarket (have you seen the video of that yet? – well worth a watch) we thought it might be nice to start thinking about great presents to get your dear ol’ Dad.
It’s a scientific fact * that all Dads love curry. The rice, the poppadums, the naan bread, the tikka, the jalfrezi, the Cobra beer, the slightly unusual feeling the day after. What’s not to like?
If your Dad is one of these curry mad Dads then why not get him half a days tuition in Indian cooking for Father’s Day? He’ll learn how to make five different dishes and, best bit of all, have enough to take home with him as well. There’s three different themes he can choose from: Curry in a hurry, Dinner Party class and Vegetarian cooking, so whatever his preference he’s covered.
There’s a whole naan-load of other curry cooking courses in our Cooking section to choose from so stop dilly-Daal-ing here (sorry) and check them out. And let’s not forget the great selection of Fathers Day Gifts and offers on Buyagift – you’d be poppa-dumb not to give them a look!

Chocolate powered racing car

Fill 'er up... no Fruit & Nut please!
We all remember being told to “eat our greens” when we were younger. They were, apparently, good for you (apart from sprouts – come on, they’re not good for anyone!). Full of vitamins and minerals and other healthy things.
Here’s the proof positive that not only are fruit and veggies good for you, but they can also let you go for hell for leather around a race track in a way that’s environmentally friendly. Who knew that greens were that good?
The team at World First in collaboration with the University of Warwick have assembled a Formula 3 race car that uses veg products in its components. Carrots and root vegetables make the steering wheel, engine lubricants are made from plant oils, the engine is a 2l monster that runs on bio-diesel made from chocolate waste products and vegetable oil. Even the wing mirrors are made from potato starches and flax fibres!
Showing that green sensibilities don’t have to compromise rip-roaring speeds this little beaut can do 125mph around corners! Tasty.
Is this the future of racing cars? Only time will tell. For now you could get a hold of a single seater driving experience and maybe eat a Wispa at the same time and dream of the time when you can eat the car when you’ve finished.
